Frequently Asked Questions

Why can't I edit the wiki? First, check to make sure you're registered, and then check to make sure you're logged in. After that, if you're still having problems, please let us know.

How do I create a new page on this wiki? It's not quite the same mark-up language as wikipedia or wikispot, is it? It's actually pretty easy. In exactly the same way that you would search for the page and then 'create' it when it doesn't exist, you can do that here. The difference is that you're also going to tell the wiki where you want the page to go. This will almost always mean the hierarchy of <folder>:<page> – for example, to search or create a page called 'Fairy' under the folder 'organizations' you would search for 'organizations:fairy.' If you're trying to create your character page it's easier. Click on 'characters' from the menu above, type your character name into the 'add page' window and hit 'add page.' A templated page will come up for you to fill out.

How do I upload a photograph or picture? The image uploader is located in the editing window. Go to the page you want to add the photograph to, edit it, and click on the green picture with the gold frame. That will pull up the 'Add Images' screen. Currently there are some problems with this wiki build, so note that the text which says 'select files' is a clickable link. Select your pic to upload, hit upload and ignore the failure message. Scroll down to find your pic and then click on the thumbnail of the picture that appears to bring up placing options. If all these seems needlessly complicated, note that drop and drag works with Chrome and Firefox, and you can always ask for help.

Can I apply to play Feature Characters? Of course you can. For our purposes, a Feature Character is any character pulled from a literary, movie, TV show, cartoon or comic source. Endless City Mux can justify almost any background or continuity, but we consider ourselves to be a superhero mush first and foremost and would prefer to see superhero (or supervillain) characters. That said, a number of characters from other genres (such as Sherlock Holmes or certain historical figures fit the genre reasonably well.) If you want to play a completely non-powered FC, you can do that too. It's your call.

Can I apply to play Original Characters? Yes. We only ask the character in question be yours, i.e. you should not copy someone else's original character.

What happens if I want to apply to play a Feature Character such as Batman, but he's already in the game? Endless City uses what we call the Rule of Distinction (cause we like to name stuff) which basically states that as long as the characters have distinct histories, are clearly from parallel universes, and have unique, individual names, we will allow multiplicities to occur. So, for example, Batman (presented as the Silver Age hero) is very different in flavor from someone playing The Dark Knight (of Frank Miller origin) and because of this, we would allow both individuals on the mush. We simply could not come up with any logical reason why people couldn't run into a parallel universe's version of themselves, and rather than use handwavium to ignore this, we decided to embrace it.

Isn't it confusing if there are multiple versions of the same Feature Character running around? It does have that potential, which is why the Rule of Distinction exists and why players require staff assistance to change their character name.

What happens if two versions of the same Feature Character meet in game? Nothing. Well, hopefully something will happen – what a fantastic opportunity to have a Doctor Who-style multiple crossover adventure!

Does this game have an overall rating? PG-13. It's assumed that violence and some sexually suggestive content will happen in public areas, but generally speaking, anything that happens in public had best be acceptable in a PG-13 rated movie (allowances are made for foul language.)

Does tiny-sex break any rules? What characters do in the privacy of their own home/palace/apartment is their own business. We don't want to know about it, and we don't want to see it in any logs.

The City is the only location on the grid…what if I want to have an adventure somewhere else? Please do. The Lookingglass Rooms of the City open upon virtually every dimension and world in the cosmos at one point or another. Lookingglass Rooms can be used to have adventures in Gotham, Los Angeles, Mojoverse, London during the time of Jack the Ripper…basically any place and time can be accessed.

Why aren't the RP rooms accessible through the OOC room? On most mushes, the RP rooms (if they exist) are accessible through OOC and a hand-waved means of creating a custom set for locations that may not exist on the grid. However, in Endless City Mush, this is a feature of the grid – i.e. the Lookingglass Portals (what we call RP room connectors) exist inside the larger continuity of the city. As such, we placed their entrances on grid as well.

What is an Entrepot? An Entrepot is a port or mid-way point where a merchant may sell cargo without having to travel all the way to the final destination. Less common in the modern age, Entrepot were vital to shipping prior to the 21st century, and Entrepot stations usually became extremely famous and rich locales (examples include Dubai and Singapore.) The City, with it's ability to touch so many dimensions, is possibly the ultimate entrepot; the majority of employment in the city revolves around either the movement of merchandise through the market, docks or spaceport or providing entertainment for those who travel here to buy or sell goods. None of this is necessarily relavant for the PC (none of this is coded, for example) but it always nice to know that yes, there is an active economy.
