Full Name: Dulcinea The Dragon
Alias: Dulcy
Occupation: Freedom Fighter
Type: Feature Character
Morality: Hero
Origins: Sonic The Hedgehog (Archie Comics)
Dulcinea is one of the few remaining Mobian dragons as Doctor Ivo Robotnik was quick to roboticize any he could find and capture shortly following his global takeover. This meant that Dulcy would grow up as an orphan, escaping to a lost city of Vesuvio with some other dragons. She broke the rules when she snuck out of the city to do a bit of flying, which led to her meeting Sonic and Sally, and ultimately being banished from Vesuvio. Her punishment also included having her black singe ring removed and replaced with a magical golden one, making her unable to breathe fire.
She then went back to Sonic and Sally, taking them up on their request that she join their Freedom Fighter group. From then on, she worked to assist the group in the fight against the tyrannical Dr. Robotnik, helping in countless missions. Eventually, she began to miss her own kind, and flew off one day to return to Vesuvio and request a pardon. Unfortunately, she is followed by Robotnik and several of his roboticized ‘Mecha-Dragons’. Dulcy was labeled a traitor, and chained up to be punished later, but during the battle with the Mecha-Dragons, she escaped and helped defeat the roboticized dragons. It was later decided that Dulcy had redeemed herself in helping to save the city. Both her citizenship in Vesuvio, and her black sing ring were restored, while she was also named Ambassador to the surface for the dragons.
Dulcy would then return to the Knothole Freedom Fighters, knowing she was now welcome in Vesuvio whenever she may want to visit. She would continue to be a valuable member of the Freedom Fighters in the years to come. Ultimately the hidden forest village of Knothole couldn’t remain hidden forever. Robotnik eventually discovered its location and launched an attack that destroyed Knothole and nearly wiped out the Freedom Fighter group. Luckily, Sonic and a few members of the group that escaped capture were able to launch a rescue mission.
The group relocated to New Mobotropolis, a city constructed of nanites, designed by the computer AI NICOLE to almost be a copy of old Mobotropolis, which was changed to the point of being unrecognizable as Robotnik named it Robotropolis and made it the foundation of his empire. Dulcy has been living in New Mobotropolis for some time now, but on a day out flying the Mobian skies, she passed through a strange portal and found herself flying above a city unlike any she had seen before. The fact that she was no longer on Mobius quickly became very clear.
Dulcy was born in a dragon colony approximately 2 years before Robotnik’s takeover began, which soon lead to her home being invaded by SWATbot forces and the roboticization of her mother and most of the other dragons. She escaped with the remaining free dragons to the city of Vesuvio, and lived there for a time, but she couldn’t remain cooped up in the subterranean city forever. She discovered a fissure that allowed her to escape to the surface, and despite it being against the rules, often left the city to explore.
She soon met Sonic and Sally, and helped them and the other freedom fighters. The fact that she had left the city was soon discovered and she was banished from Vesuvio. So, Dulcy became a more permanent member of the Knothole Freedom Fighters, and despite eventually being pardoned for breaking the rules of Vesuvio and being welcomed back as a citizen, she continues to live with the Freedom Fighters in the city of New Mobotropolis.
Dulcy has grown up a bit over the years, but she is still a child at heart, and it often shows in her being a bit ditzy and naïve at times. She loves to explore, and through her travels, knows a lot about the different areas of Mobius, and their legends. She is also very kind, makes friends easily, and is loyal to a fault. She believes in standing up for what is good and just, but hates senseless acts of violence and destruction.
Flight: Capable of normal flight at around 150-200 MPH, but by waving her tail behind her in a technique she calls ‘cracking the whip’ she can gain a short burst of speed, bringing up to about 350 MPH, which she can sustain for a maximum of 20 seconds. If she uses this ability more than a few times in a row, or sustains the full speed for her maximum limit, she will not be able to perform the technique again without resting for at least 1 hour.
Super Strength: Able to lift up to about 15,000 pounds in flight, though that is at great strain, and not something she could do repeatedly. A strike from her tail or a running charge also packs quite a wallop, making her a force to be reckoned with in a fight.
Breath Powers: Able to breathe fire from her mouth hot enough to melt many types of metal, and ice from her nostrils to freeze people or objects in place. She usually uses her breath attacks in short bursts so she doesn’t wear herself out. She can also belch smoke, inhale large amounts of air (increasing her weight significantly in the process) and blow strong gusts of air.
Very Sensitive Hearing: Able to hear sounds up into the ultrasonic range.
Can sense truth in others: Due to an innate magical power all Mobian dragons have, she is able to sense when others are telling the truth.
Skilled Explorer: Years of wandering Mobius in her free time has made Dulcy pretty used to travel and learning her way around new places and being able to find her way back home. She’s also gotten pretty good at finding food on her own, though being in a totally new dimension will likely throw a monkey wrench into that skill.
Friends in Great Variety: Dulcy has a lot of friends with lots of different abilities and skills. From the supersonic hedgehog Sonic, to Rotor Walrus, a wizard with mechanics and technology, to Sally, a skilled diplomat and leader, and the list goes on, not to mention all the other dragons she knows in Vesuvio.
Unable to Lie: The flipside of her ability to sense when others are telling the truth, is that she can’t say anything but the truth. She could say something untrue from being misinformed of course, but in that case she would believe it to be the truth.
Clumsy: Dulcy is rather large, and she isn’t the most nimble of creatures. In the air she is much better, but a bird of prey could probably fly circles around her when it comes to maneuverability. She also still has a rough landing from time to time.
Claustrophobic: Dulcy is somewhat claustrophobic, and will get very uncomfortable, or even panic if she feels trapped in a small, enclosed space.
Dulcy may not know where she is, or how she got here, but before she worries about going back home, she is very interested in learning more about this new world she stumbled onto. She’s eager to explore, and though she is anxious about meeting the locals, as most of them appear to be Overlanders (humans) she is still curious about them.
